Meals on Wheels - End of an era

For forty-nine years the Rotary Club of Drogheda have provided meals for the elderly and incapacitated around Drogheda. McKevitt King Architects have assisted the Rotary Club in providing this much needed service in the town for over ten years. Eoin O’Donnell was the lead within the office and had been representing the office for over four years. For delivery purposes, the town is split into four different routes. We covered ‘Route D’ which covers the 'Far Side' from The Bull Ring out to Platin and everywhere in between. The roster over the years was shared in the office between Eoin, James, Adrian & Trevor.

Towards the end of last year, it was decided that this delivery service was not sustainable and Drogheda Meals on Wheels was heading on a new journey. This new model, run by Drogheda Homeless Aid, now engages a part-time driver and assistant to deliver the meals. A new van for transporting the meals was acquired and the van is branded to indicate its purpose and to acknowledge the cooperation of Drogheda Rotary Club and Drogheda Homeless Aid.

So its an 'End of an Era' for us but the beginning of an exciting new era for Drogheda Meals on Wheels. Best of luck in the future to all involved in this wonderful local service.
