The dwelling is located on Tower Road in Mornington. It was designed for a family who were attracted by the quiet location and the proximity of the site to the sea and the beaches. The house is on a compact site that was formerly occupied by King’s dancehall, a mecca of entertainment in times past.
The living spaces are laid out around a south facing courtyard, all constructed on an elevated base to avoid any possibility of future flooding. Views from within are substantially of interrupted sky and these combined with a southern aspect fills the living spaces and bedrooms with continuous light, even on dull days. The dwelling is designed to be expanded within itself by utilising a very generous attic space which can be converted to habitable rooms.
