Tooting Meadow wins The RIAI Public Choice Award 2020

This morning it was announced by the RIAI president Ciaran O’Connor on RTE Radio 1 that McKevitt King Architects have won the RIAI Public Choice 2020 award. We are absolutely delighted! It is a huge honour for the practice to win such a prestigious award. Winning this award would not have been possible without the massive support we received from the people of Drogheda and the Northeast. The encouragement from family, friends, colleagues, clients, local business, sports clubs, etc. has been overwhelming.

We are a local community-focused practice which is evident in the work that the practice has been involved with over the last five decades. We have made a huge contribution to the built environment of the Northeast in this time, under the steady hand of Turlough McKevitt. The ten-strong practice are all Drogheda natives who are proud to work and contribute to the town. To win the Public Choice Award is a welcome acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication from all the team which has been put into this project and all our other projects. This award showcases the high quality design capabilities of the practice.

Drogheda is an important and historic town and we feel that this project has contributed greatly to the architectural heritage of the town. The client’s aspiration was to create an exemplary housing project with an emphasis on the community. From the outset it was important that the new building would improve the streetscape and contribute positively to the urban experience on Scarlet Street which the project has achieved. A successful urban renewal project, we hope that this recognition for Tooting Meadow will encourage other high-quality designs in our town and beyond.
