Louth County Council has opened a public consultation on its 2026 Speed Limit Review, proposing changes to speed limits across towns, villages and settlements throughout the county.
The review includes the introduction of new 30km/h zones in a number of locations, with the aim of improving road safety, creating more pedestrian-friendly streets, and enhancing the quality of urban environments. According to the Road Safety Authority, reducing vehicle speeds from 80km/h to 30km/h significantly lowers the risk of fatal injuries in pedestrian collisions.
Residents, businesses and stakeholders are encouraged to review the proposals and have their say before the consultation closes on 16 July 2026. Draft plans are available to view online through Louth County Council's consultation portal and at council offices during normal opening hours.
As architects committed to creating safe, sustainable and people-focused places, we encourage anyone affected by these proposals to take part in the consultation and help shape the future of our towns and communities.
