Cupa pizarras Natural Slate CPD

May 15, 2026

We recently had a CPD presentation from CUPA PIZARRAS focused mainly on their natural slate range and the role slate continues to play in modern roofing and façade design. The session offered a valuable insight into the technical performance, sustainability credentials, and specification considerations of natural slate within contemporary construction.

One of the key takeaways was the longevity and durability of natural slate. Unlike many manufactured alternatives, natural slate is formed over millions of years and offers a lifespan of more than 100 years when correctly specified and installed. Its resistance to fire, water, frost, and extreme weather conditions makes it a reliable long-term roofing and cladding solution.

The CPD also highlighted the environmental benefits of natural slate. Because it requires minimal processing and no chemical treatments, slate has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to many alternative roofing materials. CUPA PIZARRAS presented independent Life Cycle Analysis data showing lower energy use, water consumption, and air pollution during production.

Another interesting area covered was rainscreen cladding systems, particularly the CUPACLAD® range. The presentation demonstrated how natural slate is increasingly being used beyond traditional pitched roofing to create modern, ventilated façades that combine aesthetics with sustainable performance.

The session reinforced the importance of proper specification, including understanding slate classification, testing standards, traceability, and installation methods. Overall, it was an informative CPD that showcased why natural slate remains one of the most trusted and sustainable materials in the construction industry today.
