Built Heritage Investment Scheme

March 3, 2026

Last year we assisted four different buildingowners of Protected Structures to prepare applications for the Built Heritage Investment Scheme in the North-East for work scheduled in 2026. These applications have secured almost €80,000 of grant funding for essential repairworks to roofs, window frames, wrought iron railings and masonry elements across various buildings in both private and public ownership.

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) is a government initiative designed to support the conservation and repair of historic structures. It aims to protect the country’s architectural heritage while encouraging local community involvement. The scheme provides financial assistance for eligible buildings on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and other historic assets. Funded works include repairs and restorations that comply with heritage conservation standards. Administered through local authorities, the BHIS not only enhances cultural appreciation but also contributes to local economies by promoting heritage tourism and skilled trades.
