McKevitt King Architects participated in an architectural walking tour of Drogheda as part of the Festival of Ideas programme at the end of September. The walk started with a visit to Tooting Meadow where Adrian spoke about our social housing project focusing on how its design responded to its immediate urban environment, in particular setting next to Sienna Convent design by Francis Johnston and the former school, and how re-using this brown field site has revitalised and improved the streetscape for everyone.
Organised by Development Perspectives, Drogheda Dereliciton and Vacancy and the Upstate Theatre Project, the tour followed a route from Scarlet Street to Laurence’s Gate, exploring architectural features and urban design successes and some failures along the way. History, song and music performed by local musicians the Carolan Brothers and Breffni Holohan and Amy Judge formed part of the programme, connecting the town’s urban built environment with its cultural heritage.
